Sometimes apartment review sites aren't exactly helpful. Anonymity means you really don't know why someone has written a review (good or bad) or what their ulterior motive may be.

Here in the Jax Forum you'll get more honest replies as the general rule.

However, before others can reply, we need more info. The Jacksonville area is huge and where you choose to live depends on two things: where you'll be working and your lifestyle priorities.

liedj,

If you have a decent credit history, secure job, and nothing in a background check of note, I have a couple of friends that may be willing to rent out their houses to you.

One's a new, super nice one very similar to this: http://srghomes.com/images/dozier-brochure.pdf

And one's a historic, recently renovated bungalow.

Both would be around $1200, I believe.

ok i'm doing census work and i can tell you with full confidence that there are absolutely nice neighborhoods (apts, condos, homes) in your $1,200/month price range. there are so many vacancies right now ALL OVER. at the same time people are still building new stuff in hopes of future growth. i think most people in the business will tell you that's a buyers market in jville right now and there's never been a better time. so whatever your sources are then find new ones and have some patience. i cosign what mawipafl said. give some more info on what you are looking for. Also, view our jville forum sticky first and that will help you with some general information about jville areas.

finally do not panic, keep in mind that jville has plenty of clean week stays for about $200/week. they serve a good purpose for people who come to the city early and want to shop around for a place to live. i would absolutely not recommend securing a place before you get here. the city is too big and deceiving on paper for that. meaning that what you may expect from preconception what you read about may not be what you get. so you definitely want to get around before deciding.
