I Think Southwest is the best airline in the game. But how many flights do they offer from Jax?

Now that Airtran and Southwest are one, there are almost 30 daily flights out of JIA to 11 destinations.

Atlanta, Baltimore, Birmingham, Denver (begins June 5), Fort Lauderdale, Houston-Hobby, Las Vegas, Nashville, Norfolk, Philadelphia, Tampa

Airtran and Southwest won't be one until early 2012 with all the hoops they have to jump through. Then we will see what they keep or eliminate.

Hopefully it isn't the Red Eye special like the old Frontier flight-that was rough one
left DIA at 11 pm..first time not so bad (just a handful of people-could get a whole row for sleeping)-next time completely full-really sucked

We had one non-stop to/from LAX recently. Use it or lose it (no one used it and we lost it). In all fairness - it was at hours suitable for business - not leisure - travelers. Robyn

Aloft hotels doesn't set up shop in dud towns, so they must see some sort of future in the near future in Jacksonville. Most airports and airlines don't grow as the airport there is doing, if something isn't expected to happen.

When you get a nonstop to London you will really know Jax has made the list.
JAX will never have a nonstop to London. We're not an international airport. But it's easy enough to drive to and fly out of MCO (we've done that flying on Virgin Atlantic out of MCO). Especially since Europe-bound flights leave in the late afternoon (plenty of time to get to MCO).

The big problem with JAX is it isn't a major place for any particular airline if you're traveling internationally or transcontinental. Delta will usually hub you through Atlanta. Continental generally through Newark or Houston. Etc. If Miami - a much larger metro area than we are - didn't have AA (not my favorite) - it would be pretty much out of luck too. The longest flight I've ever taken was to Tokyo - one stop out of JAX - not bad IMO. Robyn

Default New Flight MIA-JAX Added

4x daily on Delta. Delta now has 9 international flights out of MIA that they are going to try and feed into.

This will compete with MIA-Jax on AA.

Ah, thanks. I figured it was during the years I wasn't here.

Someday I hope this comes back...of course, at this early stage in my career, even if the direct flight were an option I'd probably buy the cheapest ticket and take the layover in ATL or Houston.
