I would like to see the make-up of the schools more closely resemble the "real world" that my kids will almost certainly be part of in their college life and careers. Obviously this is not a fault of the schools - they enroll whomever lives within their boundaries. I just wish the kids had more opportunity for cultural awareness as part of their everyday lives. But I don't wish for that enough to move to more diverse school districts with sub-standard schools. Like many things in life, this is just another trade-off.

It's funny how Asian kids come to this country and excel at every level at school and never seem to get hung up about racial makeup.
I guess it's all in the head.

I guess. My high school, college, and now workplace has probably all been over 75% white. Maybe the only thing useful to learn would be to not make fun of Ted Kennedy to someone from Boston.

Hi Skyykell,

My children are minorities enrolled in Elementary School in St. John's County. We moved from the catholic school to the public school so our public school seems incredibly diverse! Although, statistically I am sure the minority population is very low, it has not been an issue for us.

I am not sure how things will play out as my children enter middle and high school.....and that crosses my mind every now and again.
