You know its funny that people rant about the people/climate/drivers/ad nauseum in Jacksonville when 75% of the people in Jacksonville (and Florida in general) are not from Jacksonville but usually transplanted snowbirds, fixed income retirees or out of work rustbelters, who moved here for a chance to better their lives. And "Lo and Behold" when its not like how things were at "home" they whine and complain about how things are here in the dirty, slow paced, rednecky south. We did not ask you to move or live here, you chose to. Good choice or bad? Its up to you to make the effort to adjust to the pace of things down here, not for us to adjust what or how we do things to accommodate you. Does this mean I like everything about Jacksonville? No! it doesn't, But it also does not mean I get on here and blame everybody and their brother for the cities shortcomings. It means I do what I can to help improve those faults and try to make things work better. Jacksonville will never be like New York or Chicago or even Atlanta ... Thank God! To me that's a good thing, if I wanted to live in any of those places I would have moved to one of those places. If everyone made an effort to improve Jacksonville, it maybe someday would be a great place to live for everyone. As for the weather...can't do squat about that!

Wow! what an insight, after the other posters rant I was almost afraid to even open this thread. This is what its about, working to make a place better not whining about how bad it is. ''Semper Fi'' Madcap you actually get it. Now if more people could do whatever they can to help, Jacksonvile could be worldclass in a decade or less. Maybe jacksonville would be a good place to settle down for awhile. I guess we'll see.

Thank you Madcap and notSilverman for expressing so well what I'm sure are the views of many of us who don't have the patience to respond to people who likely won't change their posting habits regardless of what anyone says to them.

You killed it MadCap, right on I'm glad Jacksonville isn't some overgrown city on steroids like NYC, LA, Chicago or any other major metropolis because we don't have to deal with the magnitude of issues those places do. Not taking anything away from the aforementioned cities because they are great and have lots to offer. Jacksonville was designed as a major city with a small-town, family feel. It has that down home country feel with many amenities of a major city.
