We are looking to rent (or possibly buy) a 2 bed / 2 bath condo anywhere in Florida. We would like a newer building in a safe area: either by the beach (ocean view preferred), or in the suburbs. Looking to move in about a month! Thanks!

Seaside, FL is pretty cool: Seaside, FL | More than a way of life, a way of living!

So is Miami Beach: City of Miami Beach - Official Website

So is Winter Park: Home / City of Winter Park

So is the Riverside & Avondale historic district here in Jacksonville: www.riverside-avondale.com

It was recently named a Top 10 Neighborhood in America, so i'd say it's near the top of any list, eh?

Residents already know how great Jacksonville's Riverside-Avondale area is | jacksonville.com

Sorry, I didn't give a lot of information before... We are a young couple in our late 20s, both from the midwest, who both work from home so work is not a problem. Our monthly budget would be up to $1600. We were hoping to get some ideas from people who live in the area on what their area is like...what there is to do around there, what type of people live there, what problems there are, etc so we can investigate a few of them further. We really like the idea of a newer home/condo (built in last 5-7 years). Thanks!

Anywhere in Florida? Riverside is a nice area in Jacksonville. But its mainly an area of real old homes and small 4-8 unit apartment buildings, some older 2-3 floor condo buildings that are comfortably priced. Or high rise condo buildings that are expensive because of the river views. There are a couple of newer condo units such as Chelsea Lofts that are really nice--> Chelsea Lofts - Urban Condo Rentals <--and a couple of other like them located nearby. I just arrived in Jacksonville, about 2 months ago and am also originally from the Midwest, St.Louis. I stayed in Riverside for about a month as I looked around for a place to put down roots. I liked Riverside a whole hell of a lot, but when I went out to the beaches , Atlantic Beach in particular I fell in love with the whole beach atmosphere. I am 1 block to the ocean and just 5 blocks to a great little commercial area where Atlantic Blvd (a main road into downtown Jacksonville about 15 miles to the west) runs into the Atlantic Ocean (Spain is about 3000 miles to the east) At that intersection within a couple of blocks, there's about 10 -15 great places to eat and party and drink and make new friends and just in general have a great time. There's also all the basic stores needed to make life just a little bit easier. Like you I have no need to commute to work as I don't really have a job as I am a disabled vet who does not drive a car, so I usually just walk everywhere. Or friends give me a lift, people out here are very friendly even more so than down in Riverside, which was a friendly part of town, I thought. Anyway to get back to the main point of your thread There are condos out here how much I don't know, I am renting a 3 br/3 ba house 1 block from the ocean for $2,200 a month. I am pretty sure that a smaller condo would be less in this economic time. I do know in my walking around I have seen several new looking townhomes for sale, but they are all 3-6 blocks from the beach(if that matters) My best advise! Rent first before you buy make sure you like the area. Its better to be unhappy for a 6 month/1 year lease than a lifetime of home ownership in the wrong area.
