Hi, we're new to the area and really having a hard time deciding where to buy. We've been renting in Crescent Beach. The houses here seem small for our price budget, but my husband is avid fishing and we love the water. For day to day life, Murabella seems like an option or that area (CDD fees or not, hmm?) There are so many houses and short sales in the WGV / Murabella area that we are not sure if it's a smart investment. Do other people really want to be way out there, but yet is seems like a good place (only 15 min from St Augustine downtown). What appeals to people about Murabella? Would buying on the island be a better investment? Is there an area better than Murabella but still close to Downtown St Augustine? I can't figure out where families prefer to buy/live. Either wouldn't matter to us as far as the commute, but maybe it effects others. Would love any advice and direction, really going in circles here. Thanks so much!

We live out here for two reasons. We wanted to build, and we liked the prices, and my husband's commute is 45 minutes VS an hour or more. There are a ton of kids, which would appeal to me if I had kids at home. Other than that, it is isolated, which can be peaceful, or it can be just plain lonely.

Peter, I think you are a bit self-serving here since I believe you sell real estate on the island. There is no truth to "more families better schools" on the island than the rest of the areas the OP mentioned. And as far as proximity to the ancient city anywhere in SJC is close enough. As far as CDDs you have a point although having to pay higher insurance on the island may factor that out. Just keeping you honest ...

Fair enough, well then I take that back but can't go along with "more families better schools" on the island than the rest of SJC.
BTW I will call you when I am ready to buy because you know how to spin it. Just joshing ya.

Better schools are found in WGV when compared to Anastasia Island. Antastasia Island is zoned for good elem school; however middle school and high school are both rated 6/10 on greatschool rating website. In comparison, WGV is zoned for Pacetti middle and Nease HS-both of which are much better.
