Hi all,
I just moved to the mandarin area of jacksonville about a week ago so I'm not that familiar with the area. Actually I just moved to jacksonville a few months ago so i'm not too familiar with jacksonville in general , but my question is about the mandarin section. I don't have a car and since the buses don't run very often, I was wondering whether there were any good (and cheap) local taxis. I've had quite a few people tell me that taxis here are unreliable. Meaning that if they don't think they're going to make any money off of your trip (less than 1 mile) they won't even bother coming. Thanks in advance for your help!!

I don't know about specific taxi names for Mandarin, but I know JIA (Jacksonville Int'l Airport) recommends Gator City Taxi, so that might be a good place to start.

Also, if you're looking for regular weekly service, consider working out an arrangement with a car service. This is something that's popular in larger cities (like NYC), so I don't see why it would not work here (open an account/run a tab).

I didn't have a car my first few months here, and I used Yellow Cab for short runs (from grocery store etc) and they were fine.

For more info on bus service, check out

I can't help out with taxis, but if your new to jax you may want to consider getting a gps unit, but only if you plan on getting a car, since you really won't need it if you don't plan on having a vehicle.
