Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long on average it would take to drive from Fernandina Beach to St Luke's. My wife and I are planning to move to the Jacksonville area and found Fernandina Beach to be a nice area according to posts I have read. My wife would be working a St. Luke's. Any other suggestions for a family friendly place outside of the big city? We will most likely rent for the first year to make sure we like the area. Budget of up to $1400 a month for rent. Moving from Minnesota. She would like to keep her commute time to work under one hour each way. Thanks for any suggestions!!

as nice as fernandina sounds to you it isn't geographically practical to live there and work at st lukes, it will be about an hour at off hours and clear traffic, more during rush hours, bad weather or construction or accident delays. Consider some closer places. St Lukes and Mayo are disassociating themselves if she's going to work at Mayo it might actually shave a few minutes off that commute

I agree with apvbguy.
It's a pretty miserable commute.

Fernandina Beach is a county away and it really feels it. From Fernandina, you'd be closer to the Georgia line than you would to the Duval county line (Jax). It's nice....but far.

Other family friendly places "outside" of the big city?

Well, Jax is predominantly suburban and family friendly in itself. Inside of the "city" border you can find plenty of suburban life and even rural life.

The only was to get completely out of the city is to get out of the county....they are one in the same here . You can look to the other 2 neighboring counties of St. John's (St. Aug area) and Clay county. These would put you "outside" of the city of Jacksonville, but you'll be adding onto your commute time. Still, they would be better to commute from than Fernandina Beach.

Simply, that would be impossibly impractical.
Even the drive from Mayo to St. Luke's is a hassle--cannot wait until April when Mayo is all unified in one place.
