Why do Florida school rate so poorly? (school district, college)

Can anyone offer insight into why Florida schools rate so poorly? St John’s County has very high ratings, are those rating really deserving and if so, what are they doing that other Florida districts are not?

Because their graduates can't even post a simple query on CD correctly. "School" is singular, not plural.

Florida is ranked number one in higher education , so great if you want to go to college here, but for K-12 Florida is "the 45th in state education funding." but hey, they are only ranked 27th worst in education so in fact they are doing pretty well considering no money spent.

It's a vicious cycle here and in the south generally. Uneducated adults (nor the throngs of retirees who call FL home) do not favor spending tax dollars on schools, nor do they place importance on their child's education, those kids then grow up to be uneducated and do the same with their children, and on and on we go. Parts of SJC do, indeed, have high rated schools but one could argue that point about many counties (Duval, for example, has some of the highest rated schools in the state but generally is very poorly rated overall).

Florida's education system being bad is an old misconception left over from the 90's when that was actually true. Since then, ouur education system here has been revamped, and is now pretty consistently ranking in the top 10 in the nation.

We have even most recently ranked 3rd in the nation for AP High School exams.

If you are stuck in a poor school district, just get a school voucher and go to a different school

Unfortunately demographics play a huge role in which areas have better rated schools. If you move all the teachers from the A rated St. Johns schools into the inner city areas of Duval, the results will be the same.
