I have had the fortune of moving back home after college due to no jobs in the area where I was going to school on the Southwest Coast of FL. My ideal job would be to be an event coordinator for an organization but that seems to be one of the harder jobs to find. I am at the point where would settle for an entry-level business job or go back to bartending until I stumble across anything. Does anyone have any advice for finding an entry-level job in JAcksonville or am I thinking this is the wrong city to be in? Are there any companies in the Jacksonville area that seem to be hiring?

Event coordinator shouldn't be that hard to find, although I don't know if you have any working experience. Seach for marketing jobs on all the career websites, you'll probably find something up your alley. Entry level marketing doesn't pay all that much...so you might want to keep that bartending thing as a backup while you get some work experience.

Along with checking the internet, check the newspaper (sometimes you'll find an ad in the paper that won't necessarily be on the net). You can also check individual company websites.

As for entry level, many companies hire seasonal workers this time of the year and the job can often become permanent, so that's something to keep in mind as well.

You need to find a professional organization for the kind of job you want. I do event coordinating, among many other things at my job. THose jobs go fast and usually through word of mouth. Find the local chapter of FPRA and PRSA. Networking is the best way to come by those kind of jobs. AS far as salary, entry level out of college ranges from $25 to $30k, but due to demanding hours, keeping a part-time job may be a challenge. Try to find a roommate as well. PR and marketing jobs open up because of people shifting around, not new positions being created. Due to the economy, those are sometimes the first positions to go. Good luck on your search, but a bigger city may yield more jobs.

I not sure how much the economy has changed since 2008, hopefully it has.

Not trying to be negative, but what I have noticed from living here a few years now is that you really need to know people to get a half decent job of any kind.
