Ok, I've gathered quite a bit of general info. from the forum that crime and schools in FL overall are somewhat random and should be a big concern when considering a move to FL.

I've heard the schools in the St. Johns area are good. We are considering this area and also Yulee.

Are either of these areas safe or would we have to be careful around town, like navagating through a labrinth so we don't get assaulted or something?

Any other areas in or around the JAX area fit the bill of good schools and low crime?

Yulee is quite far from the city. I think crime is low because no one lives there. St. Johns area is safe. Its such a relative word these days, especially considering the recent events from students at a local private school. But both areas you mentioned are considered safe.

"Are either of these areas safe or would we have to be careful around town, like navagating through a labrinth so we don't get assaulted or something?"

- some people tend to exaggerate on City-Data. Most areas of the city are your typical, "safe" neighborhoods. The majority of serious crime is concentrated into specific areas or pockets....so no, (ha) you don't have to navigate through random assaults like some infer.

For a more accurate description of crime, start a conversation at Metro Jacksonville | Covering Downtown Jacksonville FL, Northeast Florida, Jacksonville Transit, History, Neighborhoods, Photos. They don't have the chicken-little's that you see on here. A much more well-rounded convesartion, per say.

MANY areas are safe and have good schools. MANY.

Thank you. I will check out that link. I live in a more densly populated area and while the numbers that represent crime (I believe they are incidents per 1,000 people?) are higher, perhaps it's a bit skewed due to a smaller population.
I believe Yulee is around 100 and where I'm at now is about a 5.

What county does Yulee fall under?

I disagree, I think you did your research and found great information. Yulee is nausua county and St. Johns county both have excellent schools and low crime compared to jacksonville. If you wanted low crime and good schools in Jax, your best options are the beachs or Mandrin. Heres some crime links for the city you can check out.

Yulee is is duval county so its part of jax. It is rural and simple country living. the links that parks71 posted use bad information because the neighbrohood boundaries arent right. so you get a hodge podge of numbers that are a mix of different neighbrohoods

Doesnt make sense but thats the way it is????
