Please keep your daughter away from Riverside. Parts of it can be very sketchy & unsafe. I was a part of an organization in Riverside & it was scary to go to the evening meetings. We ended up hiring a security guard because a few members were robbed. If I had a daughter in her 20s, I would not want her living there. Baymeadows is generally a safe area, especially east of Southside. There are some nice apartments & condos near Baymeadows/9A/Gate Parkway. I lived in Village Walk for a 7 months (on Gate Parkway near 9A) & that was a very nice, semi-gated complex. We paid $1,200/month for a nice 2-bedroom. They have a very nice gym there, as well.

I would definitely live close to the school, as your daughter will be spending a great deal of time there. It wouldn't be worth my while to spend 45-60 minutes/day commuting while attending law school.

I can confirm this. A guy in the Walgreens on Park told me he was walking through the park on the river in evening and was getting mugged and the resident BUMS saved him. He's a youth counselor and had apparently given the men a dollar or two in the past and they remembered him. He said he has to go that way to his meeting or something. A well respected Jax member here also warned me to pass on Riverside as did the lady who owns the Bed and Breakfast there.

The context was "if you see bums they're generally ok" LOL.

I took an apartment in the Strand in San Marco just for the convenience and I didnt see anything wierd going on there.

Also she has to watch out in San Marco in the beginning part before you get to the actual square. From 95 down about a half mile.

There are tons of rentals and signs but also several random men floating/sitting on the beer store wall, around and hanging out on River Rd and sitting in cars there all night long.

I also met first hand two pathetic crack women behind the European cafe at 9 at night who live in those apartments there. They were flying...started asking me to "borry" a dollar and "borry" my car, stuff like that. Your daughter may not have noticed the crack part since they just looked poor not really homeless which they arent...but you never know. The manager there told me it's under new ownership and she's kicked out over 60 or 75% of the people I forget exactly.

Not horrible stuff but I wouldnt live in that section and I'm from Philly. Not for a student at all.

The Lebaron on Lebaron in that section behind Ronald McDonald house is a nice mid size highrise and secure but everyone is adult I'd say over 35 and she really can't do much but look at the river beautiful view and then drive somewhere.

I will also be a 1L at Florida Coastal this fall. I was thinking about finding a roommate; however, I am not sure at this point. I would like to consider rooming with her as an option.
