Do any decent liquor lounges still exist?

We were wishing the other day for just a place to go kick back, have a drink, relax.

We're not of the "young" set, so the typical bar setting with the young folks is not what we have in mind.

I think back to the days when Jax Liquors used to have a lounge, you could go sit back, usually in relative comfort and have a mixed drink and just enjoy a drink, out.

Does anything such as that even exist anymore? Preferrably in the Atlantic Blvd/Beach Blvd/Hodges, out towards the beaches areas.

There are some very cool lounges in Jax, where adults can just chill, relax, and have a drink. Most that I know of will be closer to the city:

> Fusion: Photo Gallery - FUSION*art*wine*jazz* (http://www.fusionartwinejazz.com/photo-gallery.html - broken link)

http://www.fusionartwinejazz.com/uploads/2/5/8/1/2581490/8950554.jpg (broken link)

> Poppy Love Smoke: MySpace - POPPYLOVESMOKE premium cigars, wines & shop/chill - 101 - Male - DOWN TOWN JACKSONVILLE!!!!, Florida - myspace.com/poppylovesmoke

> Orsay: Restaurant Orsay

> Bistro Aix: Home

> Matthews: Matthew's Restaurant | The Night starts at Matthew's

> University Club: University Club of Jacksonville FL | University Business & Athletic Club - Florida

> Aromas: http://www.aromascigars.com/

> Twisted Martini: http://www.thetwistedmartini.com/ (i think thier location in Ponte Vedra is more lounge-y)

Default lounges

thanks fsu, but aren't most of those establishments of the dressy/high-end sort?

Have any suggestions for places that might be a bit more casual?

Fusion & Poppy Love Smoke are all attire. You wouldn't look outta place walking in with jeans a t-shirt most of time.

Don't think an exclusively casual lounge for adults exists. Those are called bars, right?

Perhaps the rooftop bars of Caribee Key or Casa Marina at the beach.

I am 62 - and know what you're looking for. Hard to find here. I'm more familiar with the beaches than the Hodges area. Have you tried Ragtime - or the Martini Bar in Ocean 60 (Atlantic Beach). My favorite these days is my golf club - TPC at Sawgrass. Open to the public. 1/2 off happy hour (on all drinks and bar food) from 4-7 seven days a week. Golf type attire (shirts with collars) is fine. Robyn

Default lounges

Those are some good ideas, may give em a try.

I just know that we've gone, on occasion, to visit family in SW FL. There, a multitude of places to go do such. Usually right on the water, outdoors. Tiki bars, I think you'd call em. Casual type places, folks pulling in, in boats, so obviously they have on swim trunks and t's, flip flops, etc.

Not necessarily even looking for a tiki bar kinda place. But maybe some of those places out towards the beach, Caribee Key or Casa Marina, or the other ones mentioned Fushion or Poppy Love Smoke. May give those a try at some point.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sherwood Liquors Inc‎
1105 San Marco Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207

Don't let the exterior scare you away. It's a really friendly place with great bartenders.

Since we have cold weather in the winter - we don't have a lot of places with that "tiki bar" feel. Used to be some nice ones attached to decent restaurants at Jax Beach - but they're condos now. Best places where you will find some with that kind of feel IMO is at the Landing - River City Brewing - etc. There are some seasonal places in the center of Jax Beach as well. Robyn
