I have an interview lined up next week in the Seattle area for an accountant position. I'm in Hawaii so a suit and tie is rarely needed, we usually just wear aloha shirts. Should I wear a business suit and tie or is just a dress shirt and tie sufficient? I won't be interviewing for a management position or anything, probably just a staff level or possible senior accountant position.
Hell yes, you better wear a suit if you're serious about landing this job.
The first thing they're going to see in the interview is if you present yourself professionally, as wearing a neat business suit (preferably black) and speaking articulately is basically a requirement for the field of finance if you want to get far in that field.
If you come dressed in an Aloha shirt, they will assume that you may wear something just as unprofessional during meetings with their clients, and they won't take that chance.

I agree with the others, wear a suit. If nothing else it gives the interviewers the impression that you care enough to look your best. Even if they don't wear suits every day to work there.
Depends, for firms and larger companies usually a suit is standard. I wouldn't wear a black suit, it makes you look like an undertaker. Charcoal grey is fine.
Anywhere else basically just don't wear the suitcoat. I think you should always wear a tie when interviewing somewhere.
OK thanks everyone for the info. I think it's crystal clear I will have to buy a new suit. Either that or wear my pass me down suit from my dad that's probably from the 80s. I still don't think I'll have to wear a suit everyday but I know I have to dress up for the interview.
You should invest in a suit and wear it to every interview you have from now until you retire
