Ok, DH has an interview coming up!

Its for a major corp--managerial position. Thee usual business attire is a standard suit, tie, shirt, etc, but I've been reading that's passee. I've read such an outfit will date you, and dh is in the older range.

Perhaps docker, chinos, dress shirt, sports jacket? He doesn't want to be the only one looking out of place? what is the standard business interview getup nowadays?

How does wearing a suit date you? It sounds like a really professional position so it seems appropriate to wear a suit. Plus, I've always been one to believe its better to overdress for an interview rather than dress under.

He wears a suit and tie.

When you interview for a job(unless you're told that business casual is OK for the interview) you dress like you're going to an interview.

When you interview you don't dress like you already work there. You do that after you get the job.

The only people who run into trouble when they wear a suit and tie are the ones who are told in the pre-interview email that it isn't necessary to dress like that and they do it anyway. That shows they don't follow directions.

Best of luck.

It depends where is the interview. In CA I went to interviews (IT professional) wearing slacks and polo t shirt/button shirt.
East coast - suit and tie is a must.

Would you believe I landed this job after an interview in boxer shorts and a t-shirt?

Well... the interviewer was in Washington and I was in Georgia and he did call me right after I woke up.

A nice suit will never look dated in any way, shape or form.

A corporate managerial candidate that shows up in Dockers and a sportjacket? Wow.

My general rule of thumb was to always wear one level above what I would on the job.

Uniformed -> Business casual

Business casual -> Suit+Tie

Suit -> You better damn well wear it right.
