A few years ago I went for an interview and the HR manager at a major Jewelry company in Akron, OH, the interivew was going well for about 10 minutes, then out of no-where, the HR woman stood up and loudly said that I was lying, apparently at my last employeer had trashed me when they called to check my references, and no I was not lying, it is just that my former manager had it in for me (I had turned her in for theft,it was just my word against hers and I had quit.)
HR was invented for only one purpose. Keep people out of work. In the past they were more useful, now it's just a burden.
Yea they remind me of those lunatics at a lot of the dog rescues that ask for home titles, bank statements, 20 references and wind up turning you down because you have a disagreement on training philosophy and wonder why they are unable to place their dogs. Despite what they may say they have no logical basis to make hiring decisions and many times don't even understand the position so they inject their own prejudices and stereotyping and wind up making bad decisions or inflicting harm on good people.
Would have stood up, thanked him for his time and left.
