Lets say you put a Masters degree on your resume, but don't actually put it on your background check form. No one notices this and the hiring manager gets the completed background check that says pass because you left if off your official application. A totally separate girl handles the actual application, my manager only sees the resume. I ask, because I don't even think my manager looked at my completed background check because I had my contractor listed and not the company I worked at. She saw it when we were sitting together and didn't know who the employer was. I guess she never even looked at it.

That stuff is usually handled by HR. Never in my career have I seen the actual results of a background check.

YMMV.

Same here. If everything is OK HR contacts me about the offer salary and calls them. If there is any problem I am not told what it is, simply that they failed and I move on to the next person.

Yep. I'll get the "problem with credit" or "problem with education verification" without specifics. A discrepancy with employment history, my HR will let me know what it was, and I usually just wave it in through.
