And, others posted comments similar to mine -- basically saying that an interviewer is only going to tell you so much about the place, and you can’t count on hearing anything too negative.

I have a feeling the OP has a lot of experience in the interview process if you know what I mean...
As a job seeker, you are at a disadvantage. If you lie to get the job, the employer can terminate you without recourse. However, if the employer lies to you, whether it be about salary, benefits, job expectations, company culture, ect, you have the option to leave of course, but likely will be stuck in a position to suck it up.
I never trust anything the interviewer says about the company and job during the interview. They are trying to sell me on the position as much as I am trying to sell myself as the best possible candidate.
