I am gainfully employed, thankfully, but I have heard from so many people that outside professional careers, that craigslist is where its at these days (vs. the Sunday classifieds). What is the true alternative?

Anything else out there that's similar? Not "Indeed" had no luck with them, ever.
I have had no luck with Craigslist. Black hole of nothingness.

I have had more luck with Indeed, in fact most of my 23 interviews were from jobs I applied to on Indeed (easily apply). Of course I have had only one job offer out of the 23 interviews (I turned down, pay too low and job was part-time). So I am still unemployed after applying for 196 jobs in 11 months.

Applying for jobs on company websites resulted in only 2 interviews.

Job searching sucks.

I mainly use LinkedIn as a job hunting site but my main strategy is to target specific companies and just go to their websites directly to look for openings.

Indeed is my recommendation. Don't bother with direct company websites, just google "job search engine".

Waste of time. Time consuming pipeline to the HR round file. Spend 30 minutes with the "on line application" and a real person never even sees it. Makes sense if you're a computer head. Hope they all get in computerized self drive cars tomorrow for a date with a semi trailer.

HR hates me on sight. I have never in my life gotten a job through HR. They would have screened out Albert Einstein. (In fact, I think they did)

No thanks. Going to keep on trying to connect with a human.

I hate it so much!!! Apparently I did pass the test on Petsmart but they still didn't call me back so even if I'm lucky enough to pass the attitude test they most likely won't ever see it.

I've tried Craigslist too. I'm not sure how to find the good legitimate jobs but I have tried applying in the past a few times..did not hear back and followed the tips on how to word the email too. I must have signed myself up for more spam if anything. The only time I did hear back was a job that was entrepreneur related. I could tell it was legitimate. I just couldn't do it. I didn't know that was what it was until I went into the interview.

I've also looked on Indeed CareerBuilder Monster...etc. All the job sites are the same, looks like a lot of promising things but need experience to do it and I don't have the work history. No luck anywhere even on temping because I had looked at Manpower plenty of times before and also Kelly Services.

I'm tired of looking. I have to admit I haven't looked thoroughly in quite a while but when I have tried, I get more depressed and can't stand to look for more than a few minutes. In fact I'm at the point where just thinking about looking makes me more depressed. If I was interesting in researching this much, I would be back in school. If I got paid to Google job searching tips or open positions, I would probably have a billion dollars by now. If the local paper still had jobs I might have had better luck but instead they direct to Monster now.

I am now in the process of trying to find more help in obtaining a job by looking into other programs because I sure can't find one by myself considering I've tried a long time by myself but it is taking a while. I hate that I have to wait for someone to help me. I'd rather just get hired by myself and not have to wait for anyone but since that hasn't worked out for me even with the few times I've asked for a job in person what else can I do?

I look at the Penny Hoarder periodically but even that doesn't have much for me...just the little things that I already do for money online. I've tried work at home blogs, same deal. The only job that would be easy to obtain is call center.

Just keep in mind when posting that every job searching, every job posting you see is not a real opening.

I agree. I honestly do not know what hiring managers want anymore. I wanted to slap a couple of the people who interviewed me. I smiled and nodded but inside I was thinking are you kidding me? I have been doing the job for almost 17 years. It is not that serious. The thing that annoyed me the most was the salary that they were offering. Things have certainly changed. It sucks. I have essentially maxed out on my earning potential. I have to very careful.

I am amazed how people are able to apply to so many jobs. Are there that many jobs in your industry? I applied to about 20.

They are sadist bastards and I wish them all at the very frozen center of hell.

The new way of saying "no"? They just never call you back and let you wither on the stalk.

I have been looking for a job since March 2016, coming up on a year. When one is unemployed, you have lots of time to apply for jobs.

As to the question "are there that many jobs in your industry?"

I don't have a specific "industry." I have 25+ years experience in all kinds of industry, including software/computer testing, database administrator/programmer, legal writing, contract administration, human resources, office administration, graphic design, animation, customer service, retail and the restaurant/food service industry.

Basically I am a jack of all trades who is no longer needed in the American workplace.

Plus I have three useless degrees, a B.A. in Fine Arts (laughable), an A.A.S. in Graphic Arts (even more laughable) and a ABA Certified Paralegal Certificate (hilarious).

So yeah...basically I apply for any job that I believe I am qualified to do, seeing as most jobs are NOT rocket science. I figure if I throw enough spaghetti at the wall, maybe one strand will stick. So far all of my spaghetti has landed on the floor.
