Hi All!

So, I interviewed for a job in education last week, and my references have not been checked. I was told a decision would be made today. Is this likely a “no go” job?

It's likely just one more plodding step on the public payroll and HR trail.

Do you have enough teaching experience to have meaningful references?

4 years, and I have good references. I’m thinking someone beat me out.

I wouldn't put much stock in "we will be making a decision on [insert date/time]" because very often they didn't make one at all until weeks or a month later. They scheduled someone else on the list, or added someone else, or got distracted with other things to do. Academia is notorious for dragging out the hiring process.

Always trust your gut instinct.

We humans have evolved over millions of years to develop that gut feeling.

Keep moving forward, if you hear back soon, great, if not, you've already moved on.
