Good morning. I recieved an offer last Wednesday (6-30). The next day I submitted my information for a background check. I haven't recieved any notice regarding my background check. I understand this past Monday (7-04) was a holiday which may slow down the process. I plan on letting today go by and if I'm not contacted by anyone then I'll reach out to them.
This position is at the Goodwill. My past jobs didn't take this long usually a day or two. How long do background checks usually take if it's been longer than my past checks.
It can vary a lot depending what methodology they use to conduct their checks and how extensive they are. Holidays and long weekends can obviously create backups for other HR functions too (not just your check), so leaving it for a day or two may not be enough. If I was in your understandably anxious shoes, I probably wouldn't ask directly "is the background check completed yet?" but extend another friendly offer to clarify anything their review process might have brought up. That lets them know you're still interested, paying close attention, but stops short of being demanding.
For what its worth - time vary depending on the background company used, what they're reviewing, how deep your background is (states you've lived in, names you've used, etc).
I don't play these bureaucratic games. Keep looking for other work.
This.
Keep looking. If they want you, great. If not, keep it moving.
