I have a friend who used to work with me at a company. He called out too many days then he was fired. They allowed him back 3 months later. Then later on he got fired for the same reason. They told him he can return after a month. Why would this company continue letting him come back if he is going to continue getting fired for missing too many days and collecting unemployment? He collected unemployment both times. Yet if I got fired I am sure they wouldn't hire me back, and I have more time than he does and I do the work better than he does since I am the person who trained him. We get paid the same.

When you say 'fired' do you mean 'laid off'?
Fired for cause (like absences) doesn't yield UI.

Someone likes him better than you think they like you...
and/or they have other reasons that you don't see or know about.
