I was wondering when you see an online job posting and you are asked to email your resume what do you do?

I can't see why anyone would do something other than what they request. Isn't that a way to get 'counted out?" (not following simple rules.)

I chose the cover letter & resume option, but let me clarify. I wouldn't just send two attachments. I would compose a targeted cover "letter" in the body of the email, and then attach the resume. So my email text would introduce myself while the attachment would be the resume.

I do the same as Rubytue, my "cover letter" is the in the body of the email and starts something like in reference to XXXX job you posted at XXXX attached you will find a copy of my current resume...then I go into a very brief overview using some of the key words from the job specs why I'm interested and qualified for the position and end with I look forward to discussing XXXX position with you at your earliest convenience and thank you in advance for your consideration.

Then I put my name, email and phone number

All of this is only a few sentences

Recently, I've also tried droping my resume off to the department too, only if the jobs local, we will see if this works.
