I applied with a landscaping company here in Lexington, Ky, they are one of the biggest landscaping companies in the state. I got a call on Monday from a manager (Ben) saying I liked your application would mind coming in for an interview at 7:30 am on Tuesday, I said okay. I was in their office at 7:20 an proceeded to wait until some one asked if I was waiting for some one. I said I was and as I had been there for 20 minutes to this point without anyone helping, he said he would call Ben. He did and said Ben was a little behind but if I wouldn't mind waiting he would be here in a few minutes, so I said okay. So I waited and waited until 8:30ish when the same man from before asked if I was still waiting on Ben, I said yes and he said he would call. Once again he did and got back to me saying Ben was doing something but would call me that day to reschedule, I said okay. Well Tuesday came and went without a call from Ben or anyone at the company. I thought okay it's a busy time I will call and see if I can get in touch this morning with him. I called and left a voice mail at 7:30 on his phone, it is now close to 3:30 and not so much as a call from anyone in the company.
I think it's completely unprofessional and ridiculous to waste some one's time as they did. I could understand if he interviewed me and didn't like me but he never tired to make contact after his first call on Monday.
I agree that is absolutely terrible. Employers are really behaving badly these days.
I had one interview a few months ago where they kept me waiting for an hour, but at least I got to interview after waiting. And a few weeks ago I was just heading out the door when the interviewer called to postpone, but at least I didn't waste my time going to their office.
If 'Ben' ever calls you, I would string him along, or at least give him a piece of your mind!
That is bad. But don't do what kodaka suggests, unless you enjoy joblessness.
I've had a situation and here's what I did. Remember, even if he's 100% wrong, be humble and understanding - you want to convince him to hire you, and if you act haughty, rude, or like you were put off, you lose.
Call him him say, "Hi it's ******, we couldn't connect Tuesday, and I wanted to find out when a better time might be to come in to sit down and discuss ***** position."
He'll make a time (hopefully), and you'll interview, he'll be impressed by your professionalism, and you'll get the job!
If he does the same thing again, and doesn't call, let the job go. Don't call to tell him off, word travels, and you never know if your paths will cross again.
Thanks guys, I just needed to vent. What I forgot to mention was I had another job interview at 9 am that morning so I had to hurry across town to make it on time.
I would call him again but he doesn't seem to answer his phone or return calls. My wife said if this is how they treat you trying to get a job then how do you think they'll treat you if they hire you. Good point I guess.

Ben just did you favor.....you do not want to work for Ben or that company...that's a very troubling sign...
Agreed. What happened sucked, but OP dodged a bullet here. If I were you, I'd post about the experience on jobvent.com , indicating the company's name, but not yours - serving as a warning to other job seekers. It's because of reviews on a local company on that site that I decided not to apply at one company. They allegedly reduce your salary to under minimum wage (it's not in the food services industry) during the training period, which is illegal according to the state regulations I read.
