As you learn the foundations of spoken Hebrew, you also learn the basis of Torah Hebrew. So you may be able to figure out what many of the words mean, but the ones that didn't carry over (or are rarely used) are still in Aramaic plus grammatically you end up with the wrong translation numerous times.
The way to fully understand a new language is not only by being able to read it, but also being able to think in that language without the need to translate.

That is how I have learned all my languages...On a side note, I met a Israeli at Post today, he is a member of the NJNG where we are installing a MOD on a Blackhawk, we had a nice conversation...He said he had a hard time obtaining kosher foods while deployed...His name was Isaac Golani. nice kid...I understand there is a large Jewish community here in Lakewood, NJ, I think is the name of the town...A lot of Synagogues... - Lakewood, N.J.'s fastest-growing town, is defined by its diversity | NJ.com
