Good question! I only used them for posting, so all of my photos are safely hidden elsewhere.

They were last listed there in 1952. The 1953 directory is not available. In 1954 Bogart & Brown has taken the location, and Petey is not yet listed in Englewood. That is probably due to the move happening around the same time as the information gathering for the Polk's directory. So far I have found Petey (Layle) in the bank building as far back as 1946.

Not even sure where I got them. I thought it might have been here, but I have searched here and not found them.

As for not being old enough to remember Petey Childers being in the bank building, I am that old; however, I don't think I knew at that time. My father always banked at the Bank of Independence and I have no idea where our prescriptions were purchased. If Petey Childers was at that location in 1953, and if they had a Kiwanis team at that time, I might have known about the location due to my older brother playing baseball in those days. If I did know, there are many other things that I recall from that time, but not what was in the bank.

To clarify....I seem to remember A PHARMACY in the bank lobby, but I honestly don't know if it was Petey's.

In several editions of The Examiner of early 1957 there is an ad for the re-opening of Dixie Creme at 23rd & Kiger. Any of you older-than-me-timers know why they had been closed?

In The Examiner of February 18, 1957 Wild Woody's has a 3/4 page ad, which says it has been there for 20 months and has won the confidence of the public. They have added 8,000 square feet in the past year, and the size of the store is best viewed from an airplane.
