Looking to see if being an instate resident makes a difference in the college tuition. Are the tuition fees about the same between MO & KS? Would there be a financial interest to live in 1 state over the other if your kids were going to a state school in the state you live in?

I figured the out-of-state tuition depended on the school itself.

Being an in-state resident makes a large difference in college tuition (for state-sponsored colleges and universities). Out of state tuition is often twice as much as in state. Comparing in-state tuitions, I know a few years ago KU was quite a bit cheaper than any of the UM-system schools. I'm sure it has gone up but I'd imagine KU is still cheaper. You can find any and all info on in state and out of state tuition costs on the school's websites.

Are Missouri state colleges less expensive than KS or visa versa or about the same. If going to a KS state or university was a better deal than MS, I might consider that side of the river.

In state rates for both kU and MU - Kansas is about $200/credit hour, Mizzou is just under $250/credit hour.

Not a huge difference, but some.

As far as the other state universities and such, rates are available on their web sites.

I would assume the smaller state universities would be a little cheaper than KU, KSU or MU. Like Pittsburg State, Emporia State, Central Missouri or Northwest Missouri State

Go with KU-if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would have. Lawrence is a BEAUTIFUL city & absolutely awesome college environment. It's kind of a "destination" university, so you'll take a hit if you don't get in state tuition.

Also, there are some reciprocity agreements between Missouri and Kansas, usually determined by the college degree.
