I am not saying the property tax is low but just higher in Austin... I guess that is true- why is it that so many cities choose that over the earnings tax?

I pay a 3% Etax here. I'm fine with it because I can't feel it. I used to feel those County Property taxes dues on Dec 31 every year (we don't have personal prop tax here).

A few bucks every week or $800 at the end of the year?

It all evens out though. I still don't get why people hate the etax so much. It's just not a big deal.

I completely agree. 1% off your income is hardly ntoicable when taken each check. We do have the property tax here - which seems odd since I paid sales tax on my car when I got it - but we enjoy lower rates to renew our car tags, and lower income tax. The govenment will get their share one way or the other!

KCMO relies less on property tax and relies more heavily on sales and income tax so that the city can get income from those who live outside KCMO. It's a way to get the metro to help fund metro wide things w/out fully putting the tax burden on KCMO residents.

I think this stat is city, not metro.

BTW, someone mentioned in some other thread that KC does not have high voter participation. According to this, KC is top 10. Not sure if it's metro or city though.

Default Great place

The lack of mountains make it not for me. I also don't like the fact that the rivers are an unflattering brown color. Other than that I liked it alot when I went to school close to KC. I like the clear water and mountains here in VA.

I hate the airport, lack of light rail and lack of downtown hotel rooms.

I don't like how sprawled out the city and metro area is. I would be nice to have things like the Plaza and Westport located Downtown as well as the other buildings in between. The metro keeps sprawling further and further into Kansas. Ligh trail would be nice as well.

I agree, airport hurts the city more than it helps, and sprawl is horrible here and uncalled for. So much infill within the I 435 loop that could be used instead of spreading further and further out.
