My name is Misty. My husband is in the ARMY and we have moved here to Abilene and are trying to get settled in. I am not working anymore so things have been a little tight. I want to be able to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the kids so the have some sort of consistancy when daddy is not depolyed I can make the a special holiday meal we can enjoy together as a family. As it is looking right now he will be deployed again for next Thanksgiving so I would really like to make this one special! My problem is asking for help, and everywhere I actually do ask seems to only help for Christmas. Does anyone know of any programs in the area that offer vouchers so I can cook the meal myself? Please let me know. Thank you!!

Misty

Are your kids school age? If so, there may be a program through the school. You might qualify for it even if your kids aren't in school yet.

You might also check with some of the area churches.

Good luck to you!

I called all the churches this morning and most refer me to the food pantry and when I call them they only help for Christmas. I can't seem to find anything for Thanksgiving, seems Christmas is the only time I can find any help for yet we should be fine by then, it's Thanksgiving I need :-)

If your husband is active duty on Fort Riley, you could check on post to see if help is available through Family Services but if Guard or Reserve, I am not sure who might be able to help. Maybe someone would be willing to "barter" some dinner fixings for babysitting or some other help or something you have to trade. There are so many people in need right now, sadly.

I checked witth Ft Riley, if there are any other military families otu there in the same boat as me, the soldier needs to request a voucher for the commissary from their chain of command. Every unit has recieved vouchers to hand out to those that need them you just need to request one. I'm not sure how much they are but every little bit help! Thanks to all!!
