As Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home,” but sentiment isn’t keeping people in Kansas. About 58.5% of all cross-border moves are outbound. . . . Though it’s cheap to live in Kansas and it’s not especially hard to find work, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows people earn about $6,000 less per year than the national average.

Interesting that the photo for that article features Wichita's Century II, which the city wants to demolish, per the wishes of potential developers of the Riverfront.

This comes from United Van Lines. I'm not sure how accurate their figures are, as the vast majority of people I see moving into Manhattan don't use a commercial mover. They load up a stock trailer behind a pickup & move here every August. There's little reason not to believe that folks from adjacent states don't do the same.

There's another story out today that KS is #2 on taxation of food. Speaking of "quality of life" issues, KS is 50th in per capita public lands.

Also in the news, the Turnpike is raising fares; KDOT may not have enough workers to clear roads this winter. The KS Chamber of Commerce warns Rep. Legislature that unemployment benefits to fired, unvaccinated workers would bankrupt the Unemployment Insurance Fund. Not sure how popular paying $ to Kansans too lazy to get a jab (or work, that's why there are so many unemployed, isn't it?).

Not to mention, in the middle of a pandemic, KSU Alumni Association just honored Jerry & Nancy K. Jaax for their efforts to bring the world's largest pathogen lab to Manhattan; w/Manhattan Mercury headline:
I WONDER | Are K-State researchers purposely infecting puppies to study tick-borne diseases?

To paraphrase William Allen White's What's the Matter With Kansas?: Kansas had lost opportunities because of the Republicans and they made the state look foolish.
