This is my suggestion Garden Island Barbecue & Chinese Restaurant it is on Rice and open till 9pm mon - sat its where the locals hangout prices are very reasonable and portions are generous.

We ended up eating at Gingbua Thai and it was really good, pretty location, easy enough on the wallet, so big thanks for the recommendation! What I would recommend is that if a person is landing in Lihue after dark, be sure to have a good map on how to get to your hotel! The hotel/beach areas are not self-evident from the highway, and the street lights here are pretty dim, so avoid aggravation if you can! We drove around for an hour after dinner looking for our supposedly easy to find hotel, haha! Everything else has been perfect!

Kauai Pasta is quite popular and serves very good food. There is one on the main road ( Kuhio Hwy) in Lihue ( an additional on in Kapa'a). In addition to Pasta, they have great salads all with nice presentations.
