Hank your information provided on your post was so helpful to those like me considering, in the future a move to HI. In my 60's and want to live there in the near future but have collected too much over the years to get rid of quickly! Sooo.. until i decide when & which island, can u recommend any houses for lease on a monthly basis or townhouses that are reasonablely priced on Maui or oahu?? Also what about bringing a lil 22 lb 7 yr scottie dog when i do move?? Do u still have to quarantine the dog, i will not be doing that at all, if that is the case, but was just curious what the current law was regarding pets.

Considering the god-awful heat we have in texas every summer thru sept, that Hawaii move may be here sooner than later!!

Kricket, are you talking about visiting those two islands for weeks or a few months to help you decide where to settle? If so, I suggest looking for a furnished place on

Bringing your dog:
If you plan ahead, (at least six months) you can qualify for direct release of your dog at the airport, but you have to dot every i and cross every t, and double-check everything three times. Here are the rules - go over them with your vet VERY carefully:
