Not being from Paducah but knowing a little bit about renovation construction costs and all, it takes more money to renovate a building than it does to make a new one. Now, if the Executive Inn was architecturally significant to the riverfront, or it had some kind of historical trademark or connection and all, the City leaders should have done more to save the building than to "throw it under the bus" to developers. I'm reminded of two quotes I recently saw about change that can sum up where this issue should be:

"Change is not easy, but it is simple. Things will always change. We don’t have a choice about that. But we do have a choice about how we react to change. It really boils down to this…either we manage change, or it will manage us." ~Mac Anderson, author of “Charging the Human Battery: 50 Ways to MOTIVATE Yourself”

"Change comes bearing gifts." ~Price Pritchett

Stay tuned for developers bearing gifts to the riverfront! That is all from your friendly neighborhood KentuckianaArchitect.
