Johnson City Press reported this week that Popeye's will be open in July. Haven't seen much activity with the remodeling for awhile.

Thanks for that update!

I heard today that there is a possibility of a Popeye's coming to Bristol Tennessee on the Volunteer Parkway next to Pals.

I heard that the building they took down will serve as a full service car wash/detail center/oil change, etc and the other side may be Popeye's.

I don't have any update on the Popeye's, but I can comment on the new Steak N Shake over the mountain in Weaverville by the new Walmart. I stopped there on our way back to JC because it was new & I hadn't been to one before, we ordered a burger and a salad. The salad was missing 1/2 of the toppings and the burger was missing the lettuce and tomato. It appears that the restaurant had either not ordered or ran out of the ingredients that made up a complete meal, but was more than willing to charge full price for the meal. When I asked the manager about the missing items and maybe a discount off of the price due to missing ingredients, he snippily gave us a small discount ($2.00)

Normall I don't complain, but the managers attitude seemed off putting, so I called and emailed the corporate customer service dept. All I received for my trouble was a phone call from a blocked number asking why I had complained, no apology, no complimentary meal to make up for the poor service and poor food, nothing but an unhappy manager.

So my vote is to avoid the Steak N Shake like the plaque, it's too bad, the atmosphere was nice, like a 1950's diner place, the prices seemed reasonable, the shakes were good, but the food was not very good and the management is horrible.

But YMMV

Tony

Tony:
I am saddened by your report of the service and quality at the Weaverville Steak n Shake. My husband and I stopped there on our way to South Carolina last week and had a wonderful meal and delightful time. The decor was art-deco and reminded me of my first experience with a SnS in St.Louis. Like a lot of places, the inconsistency of the service and quality ruins the reputation of a good place to eat. You are right - the shakes are Gooooood!!! hopefully you will try i again sometime and your experience will be more positive.

Fun Fact-the guy that owned the Diary Queen in this location used to be in the Army Corps of Engineers. Most of the equipment had been there since the store opened, and he would add on to it as the need arose. There was a machine that made the burgers they called The Boss Machine. It was made out of lawn-mower parts and grills and all kinds of sharp deadly things that had been cobbled together to form some sort of deadly giant burger making evil kitchen appliance from hell. I wouldnt be at all surprised to learn its gained sentience and is refusing to be moved. Perhaps the Boss Machine doesnt want to make chicken...

Popeye's is slowly coming along. Went by there yesterday and saw a sign "We're hiring" and the outside of the building has been painted. Does anyone know anything new? I thought they were opening in July.
