I have to admit that I'd never even heard of the Yuchi prior to reading this article, but I think this would be a really cool addition to what's already a wonderful city park.

A local Native American tribe is working to establish an authentic Indian village at Bays Mountain Park, with preliminary work beginning as soon as this month or next, an official said last week.

...The concept for the Bays Mountain project is for the Yuchi to recreate an authentic village from the 1750 era, about the time Europeans settled in Kingsport. Vest said initially the village would include two or three houses, a council house, ceremonial grounds in the center along with a dozen to two dozen activities.

More on the Yuchi, who were quite possibly the original inhabitants in much of Tennessee:

That is, indeed, cool. I haven't been to Bays Mtn in years, might have to show up soon! The encyclopedia article was fascinating, too; as a linguistic nut I'm going to have to do some more research on their language. Isolates fascinate me!

hahaha, if you were a kid in the Kingsport City Schools in the 70's it was mandatory that you went once a year, and sometimes twice a year, to Bays Mountain for a field trip. Up at the planetarium they sold the neatest pencils. The tops had plastic see through tubes and they were filled with little rocks and capped with an eraser. We got to hold snakes and they had animals in cages and deer in a little preserve. I can still picture "Dave" the "ranger/guide" and remember how patient he was with us. Kingsport was a great place to grow up!

I used to go all the time! My parents would take us about every other month! I remember the snake show--it was so good! Do you remember the tree trunk downstairs that kids could crawl through? That was amazing fun! The exhibits upstairs mimic the American Museum of Natural History in NYC...very classy place, Bays Mountain! I want to go back when I visit Kingsport. Lots of great memories there.
