Moving to TN this Spring. Have a 10 year old boy who will be starting 5th Grade. Any advice on schools for these 3 areas. Don't want to move again for a long, long time so really concerned about schools. Heard Jefferson school system not the best, but don't really know. Thanks!

Of those three, Maryville City Schools wins. Hands down. Sevier Co and Blount Co (Maryville county schools) are tied because it depends on the actual school(s)) and Dandrige is third.

I second this opinion. I don't have a immediate connection to any now, but am familiar with them all. Maryville is the best, but they are getting very crowded from what I've seen. (For what it's worth, I am a grad of the Jefferson county system. My sisters are grads of the Blount county system and one works for them now. My cousin teaches in Sevier Co.) Last I heard, my sister's plan - if they cannot move into Maryville City before their kids get to Kindergarten- is to pay tuition to Alcoa.

Why?

I wouldn't pay to send my kid to Alcoa. Their high school isn't good, arguably worse than Blount, and the elementary school is terrible.

I concur with Beretta, too. Maryville City is good.

In this area, Oak Ridge is excellent. So isn't Hardin Valley (Knox), Farragut (Knox), Bearden (Knox), Morristown and Maryville City. Greeneville is good, too.

I'm not sure on Alcoa schools. I don't know anything about them, other that what my sister (who works from Bloutn county schools) has said. I only know that she has mentioned that. They have some other friends as well whose kids go there out of zone, I think. I get the impression Blount county elementary schools are hit and miss, so it my be based on their zoned elementary.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm 99% sure Maryville is our choice, now just wondering which County Schools to avoid. Not sure we will find a house in the price range and lot size we need for Maryville City Schools. Great Schools Web-Site is the only one I have looked at and it looks like Eagleton Middle School is not rated to high. Any others we should avoid? If you had any advice on the two County High Schools which one do you think is better? Heritage High or William Blount?

thank you for this info Hiknapster! I too am in a similar boat as the OP, this is very helpful.
Out of these school districts, which towns will you find the most property for a house? We are trying to avoid the subdivision HAO type of communities. Would like something a bit more spread out with a few acres of property if possible, but schools are very important.
