Hi, I posted this in the general TN area but didn't get any responses so thought I'd post in here. lol Me and my fam are moving to the area hopefully in June of this year and am needing some info on any of the small towns outside of knoxville, like karns, corryton, norris, maryville or others. I can't seem to find out a whole lot of info. on them, if anybody lives there or has info. on them and wants to share with me I'd really appreciate it. I have a daughter in H.S., a daughter in Middleschool and a son in Kindergarten so I'm trying to find out about schools as well as housing, jobs,etc... tia

First, Karns and Corryton are not towns or cities, just communities in Knox County. several of the smaller cities have been discussed here quite a bit in other threads. You might go back and read those.

Are you open to living in Sevier County? It is near Knoxville, and a great place to raise children?

Knoxville is well spread out, and yes all those areas are part of Knox county, and one of the best sites to use is, mod cut. You will find school info and many things of information.

Hi, so for Karns, corryton,etc.. it's considered knoxville,tn? I've looked at a few pages on here and am seeing alot of posts about Maryville so that must be a good place to live.
And yes, I would consider Sevier county, from what I've seen it looks like a great place to live. How are the housing prices there compared to knox county? What about Anderson? I am open to any areas around knoxville, well depending on where my husband finds a job! My sister just moved to knoxville so I can't wait to move out there, she's not a big help though considering she's only been there for 2 weeks and is in the process of finding a job. I plan on making a trip out there in early March to check things out in person. Thanks

Default Consider Exit 398?

We haven't moved yet, but will be moving in Feb/March and we found fairly reasonable housing off this exit (Strawberry Plains Pike/Carter). We are 3 miles from I-40 and it is an extremely easy 3 miles to the interstate. I don't know much about the schools, but there area a couple of sites that I am sure someone else will post about the school data. We have been there at all times of the day and it seems like a fairly quiet area area. TBI is building a facility off this exit, so it is bound to build up.

So, again, depending on what you are used to and what you are looking for - this might be worth considering as well. We were looking for something a little away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but not too far away. I don't have school aged children, so I can't help with the school info - sorry.

Good luck!

Yes, Karns & Corryton are still in Knox County, although Corryton is actually a little city with it's own zip code.

Like you said, where you live will really depend on where you all will work and the commuting time you want to have. I've lived in Corryton and like living there. It is further from the interstate (that's why we moved) so going to work for us was taking about 15 minutes more than it does now (we moved to the Concord/Bluegrass) area. Once you have kids, that extra 30 minutes-1 hour drive a day makes a big difference. We have a baby girl and just can't get enough of her! So, we now live about 5 minutes from the interstate, whew!

Sevier County house prices are less compared to Knox County; however, I think Knox County has more job opportunities. If you plan on buying a home, I would rent for about 6 months first. After you get to know the communities in and around Knox County, you'll be able to make a better buying decision. Each community is nice in its own way and you'll probably fall in love with one of the areas whether its corryton, maryville, sevierville... Come out here, take a look, secure a job, rent a place, then buy when you know where you'll want to live for the next 5+ years.

Thanks, all of this info. is very helpful. I've been researching for months now and just trying to find out as much as I ca before the move. I'm in MD right now btw, I forgot to tell you all that. I am so ready for the small town livin but want to be close to a bigger city too. Right now I'm living about 15 minutes from Baltimore and 30 from D.C. so you can imagine the congeston. I've been through tenn. a few times going to TX and fell in love with the state, can't wait to get out there. I really can't think of anywhere else I'd wann move to. So, you think renting is a good idea first? I was thinking of doing that, I just hate to have to move AGAIN! My husband just got out of the airforce last year and I just want to buy a house and stay there but maybe you are right and it'd be smarter to rent first. I wasn't really impressed with some of the rentals I saw in knox county, kind of expensive, does anybody know of a cheaper area to rent?

I definitely recommend renting and there are rental opportunities in all of the areas. Try to rent in the community that you think you would want to purchase a home.
