We live in the Northshore area. I personally prefer Powell and Halls (just as safe as Bearden and Farragut) but I put my kids education first so Bearden we went. Our second choice was Hardin Valley.

I think a commute to the Maryville area would be rough from Halls or Powell. From the west side you have the Pellissipi parkway which bypasses the downtown traffic.

my husband will be working on or near third creek rd knoxville. Which would be a better area to live? maryville or west knoxville? I am wanting to pick whichever one has the best schools-elementary right now. Also safe and not too crowded. I am trying to figure out if commuting from maryville is better than living in west knox.

West Knoxville would be closer. No idea of the schools there. Some areas are very nice, just depends on your budget.

If you prefer the Halls area, have you ever looked in North Knoxville along Washington Pike? That area is zoned for Shannondale, Gresham Middle and Central High. I've heard good things about all of these schools and I know there is a lot of opportunity for house buying in that area right now. That whole area is basically being renovated and being brought back to life so now is a good time to buy around there.
