I want to move to the Smoky Mountain area of Tennessee. Can anyone who has moved from Florida to Tennessee tell me if they regretted it? Originally I am from the NJ/NJ area but do not want to deal with snow anymore. I miss the change of seasons though. I want to get away from the very humid Fla summers & the hurricanes.

Since I am going up in December, I will be meeting with a realtor to show my around. Everyone has said it is so much better in TN plus it snows a little around the holidays. Fla sometimes has 95 degrees on Christmas Day. Yuck.

Any feedback you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I am a 67 years young woman with 2 cats & 2 dogs, my family, lol. Of course, I want a safe area not too far from shopping but not on top of my neighbor either. Also I want to stay in the valley as opposed to being on a mountain. I was told the higher, the altitude, the more snow. It is pretty to look at but don't want to drive in ice or snow.

Thanking you in advance for your feedback.

Anita

There have been several threads on this very topic. Just scroll down and see if one fits your needs.
Do you have a general idea where you want to live? Knoxville and the surrounding communities are pretty spread out.
Budget is also important.
Keep in mind that most of the Knoxville area is "safe". The sketchy areas are pretty obvious if you are driving around them. You Realtor can also be a big help in this area too.

Keep in mind, that a Realtor that specializes in Maryville, may not be that familiar with parts of Knoxville, and vice versa. Same goes for Sevier County. Generally, its best to work with a Realtor that is in the general area you want to live. There is a better chance of knowing the community better.

Good luck with your search.

Quick sidenote. Most of the country is not white for Christmas.

Also, we get very little snow compared to places like Jersey. On average, we get about 3 inches of snow ALL WINTER. That's the total for the entire winter. Sometimes it's one inch, some years it is 7. FOR THE ENTIRE WINTER. Anyone that is used to dealing with 40 to 100+ inches of snow all winter will concur that this is very little snow.

That's what I am looking for. I don't want to freeze to death. Also, not mandatory but are there a lot of bingo games in the area? I LOVE bingo & would hate to have to forego that, lol. I'm sure I can find other things to do though & save my money.

I think I just read that bingo is illegal here in TN. Something about a scandal back in the 80's and basically the government here went overboard and said you're not mature enough to handle it or something. I just did a search online and there are bingo halls in KY and NC though.

There are no casinos here in Tennessee but there are some in North Carolina. I think the nearest one is about 2 hours away. Not sure about the other surrounding states. I miss my casinos even though I don't gamble. Buffets, shows, restaurants, people watching...

Keep in mind that while we get minimal snow we do get freezing temps. From City-Data

Snow at Christmas is kinda rare. We only get 4 to 6 inches a year and it usually falls in January or February not December. Last Christmas we were 70 degrees. The change of seasons here is beautiful though, and the cold we do get is mild compared to what happens up north.

The NC Cherokee reservation has 2 casinos and a tribal bingo hall.
