I need to make a trip down there before summer is over. I don't think I've been in years, well before Splash Country opened.

This is good economic news, but just adds to the already lousy traffic in peak season.

I like that Dolly keeps updating the park with new rides almost every year, new shows, and new events. We get a season pass every other year. The fresh new shows and the seasonal events make it different every time we go. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are doing a good job of adding new attractions too. I strongly recommend going mid -week and preferably not in the summer season when school is out to avoid the traffic hassles.

Visited Dollywood yesterday (Saturday) for the peak Christmas season.

Man, it was packed! I was shocked that there were so many people there. At times later in the day/early evening, it was shoulder to shoulder in some path areas in the park.

Dollywood has really upped its game with regard to sponsorships, crowd management and investing money back into the park for improvements and expansions.

Since the 2018 attendance is approaching 3 million, next season's largest ever, 5 acre, $37 million expansion should push the park into the top 20 attended in the US, within the next several years.

A quick snapshot of the Top 20 theme parks in the US, as of 2017:

20 Six Flags Great America, suburban Chicago, 3.039 million

12 Busch Gardens, suburban Tampa, 3.961 million
11 SeaWorld, suburban Orlando, 3.962 million

If you haven't been since before splash country has opened then you have missed some legit upgrades to the roads to ease traffic flow. I've had passes for years now and can't think of one time the traffic has been "bad" to get there.

Dollywood has come a long way since my childhood. I think that whole area (Pigeon Forge) has as well.

I meant to get down there this year, but didn't make it. We used to take Veteran's Blvd. in - it was generally quicker than going the main road.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's the "back way"- it's huge, like 3 lanes in each direction. I never bother with the PF strip, but traffic is never an issue getting to Dwood.

I visited Dollywood on opening day yesterday, March 16th.

It was pretty bustling, but not as busy as it was back during the Christmas season, when I went in December.

The new 5 acre expansion was still under construction, not slated to open until May 10th--but coming along really well.

We took our time yesterday, and didn't ride any of the rides. Went over to the "County Fair" section of the park, and that area needs some major updating. It's the only part of the park (and the original section) that has not been upgraded or changed since Dolly took over in 1986.

The rides there are typical "carnival like" and definitely fun--but the area seems tired and uninspired. It's mostly filled with carnival style games where you win prizes, and has some kiddie rides and a kiddie "veggie lounge area" that looks like it just needs to be entirely scrapped and renovated.

I imagine with all of the money Dollywood has invested in every other area of the park, that this one should be next. It is definitely in need of an uplift and overhaul.
