I don't know if your question really apply to Tellico Village since it isn't age restricted. My understanding is that TV was started as retirement/vacation/golf community. Granted that 90/95% (my guess) of the population of TV is over 50 years of age. My understanding is that there are several young families living in TV.

Hey L@FL,

I think things in TV will be just fine. As most there are of the right-leaning type, some vociferously so, they are largely "over" the quarantine /socialism-experiment thing. As of May 2, there are 32 cases in the entire county, and 27 of them are considered "recovered." Of those 32, zero were fatalities, and zero were hospitalized.

Well informed rumor has it that of the 6,000-plus-people in Tellico Village, there are only two cases of Wuhan Flu. Many feel that a 1-in-3,000 ratio is not justifiable grounds for shutting down the world and granting government autonomy over personal movement and freedoms. Those that disagree are welcome to stay locked inside, glued to CNN and Netflix.

Just this weekend, there were more boats on the lake than many have seen even on major holiday weekends. The Yacht Club courtesy docks had around 17 boats (each with 2-8 people) lined up for dinner orders. Local restaurants are starting to open back up (exempli gratia: Calhoun's, Connor's, Chili's, Aubrey's, Little Italy, Cracker Barrel) and the POA is even restarting the Farmers' Market in three weeks.

Yes, I think Tellico will still be a good place to make friends and partake in activities. Perhaps this link (newsletter expected to have been released three days from now) will give you some idea of where peoples' heads are at regarding social activities in Tellico Village from this point going forward:

This video might give you an idea of how Tellico Village's activities were pre-pandemic, and to which people are working to return:

We are getting more and more younger villagers, and with the production of so many new, less expensive, homes in TV, the village demographics are shifting. I'm not sure if that has any relevance to Covid-19. Because of the low infection rate in our county, and the fact that so many TVers are of the older variety, I think that distancing started earlier and was accepted into the routine more quickly and with less grousing than in other areas. People are anxious to get back to normal life though, and many are making poor choices (a pontoon boat with 13 passengers was noted on the lake yesterday). It remains to be seen if our distancing efforts, that have worked so well thus far, will all be for naught if a few thoughtless folks turn the village into a petri dish filled with party-starved super spreaders released from their homes to run amok. Personally, now that folks are acting like this I will now START wearing a mask, where before I felt relatively safe.

The future of 55+ communities is safe, in my opinion. As long as there are seniors who wish to have the lifestyle of planned communities, with recreational amenities and planned group activities, there will be no shortage of folks to fill them. This virus crisis will pass, and when treatments and vaccines are developed, as they will eventually be, it will be no different than any other highly communicable, potentially fatal disease like measles.

Thanks EDJ, for posting those videos. Both are truly representative of most folks' experience here.

When we moved here 7 years ago the vast majority of the residents, maybe 80%, were over 60. We were in our 50's and felt like we were among the youngest, even though there have always been younger people here, they just were not evident, possibly due to the fact they were working during the day, so we didn't seem them much. Since then, many more folks in their 50's have moved in, as well as families, and couples with multiple generations, such as adult children, parents in their 50-60's, as well as folks in their 50's and 60's and their 70-85 year old mom or dad. Their used to be only a handful of children, and while there are still not a lot of school age kids, they are going up in number.

Don't get me wrong, TV has always been a non-age restricted community, but it was a de facto 55+ community. That is shifting a bit to the younger end of the scale, not a lot, but definitely detectable. Also many more homes are being built that are smaller in scale. The vast majority of homes used to be 2500 to 5000 sq feet, and 2-to 3 stories, with many basement ranch homes. For several years now, since the settlement of a tax and HOA dues delinquency issue was settled with the county, the POA is able to sell those smaller lots and we are having a boom in the building of 1400-2500 sq ft, one story, homes at a lower price point than the big homes of years ago. There is a wide variety of price point homes now available, and I think that is what is drawing in more still-working families or couples, and not just retirees.

Wondering how far you would have to drive to amenities, such as club houses, pools, bocce courts ect. Does ever section have it`s own amenities? Does Knoxville get snow?

[quote] Does Knoxville get snow? {QUOTE]

Yes, they average 7 inches a year, but it is usually gone within a day or two. Several years ago they got dumped with 7 inches, an unusual occurrence.

Kahite is the only neighborhood that has all it's own amenities. Here is a link to Google maps showing Kahite.

The other neighborhoods are strung together and is 6+ miles long as the crow flies. Here is link to Google maps showing Tellico Village main neighborhoods. If you zoom you can find the recreation centers, Tellico Village Yacht Club, Tanasi Bar & Grill (Club house), Toqua Club House, family parks, boat ramp, ETC.
