Does anyone know of any Caribbean restaurants located in the greater Knoxville area. By Caribbean restaurants i am think of a restaurant comparable to the Bahama Breeze chain of restaurants.

There used to be a Caribbean restaurant out in West Knoxville on North Peters Road next to Circuit City. Both are closed now.

In Fountain City there's a restaurant that says it's Caribbean-themed. I don't remember what it's called nor have I ever been there, but I've heard it's good. I don't know how authentic it is. It's located on Tazewell Pike across the street from National Fitness Center at the intersection with Jacksboro Pike.

Sorry, JMT. Marli's (nee Leo's) closed a couple of weeks ago...as did Taste of Havana across the street. Does anyone know if Calypso Cafe near West Town Mall is still open?

Taste of Havana moved downtown.
Bonefish Grill has some Caribbean-style food. I don't usually eat at chains but they send me nice gift cards and the food and service has been excellent. I really love their bang-bang shrimp tacos. Those and a cup of crab and corn chowder make a real nice and not too expensive meal.

Not sure about the West Town location, but I know that the Calypso Cafe in Turkey Creek closed a few months ago.

Nope, it's gone too. The location across from West Town Mall moved out shortly after the Turkey Creek one. They are based out of Nashville and are quite popular there, but really didn't seem to catch on here.

I, too, would love to have a good Caribbean restaurant though. I LOVE Jamaican Patties. (If you've never had them, they are like pocket pies or empanadas that usually contain jerk chicken or spicy beef. Also, they usually come with Coco Bread; a sweet flat bread kind of like a pita that is often wrapped around them). I always have to have one when I visit New York City or any other city where I see a Jamaican restaurant or stand. I've made them at home a few times too, but they aren't quite as good as the restaurant ones. Oh, but I did notice that Kroger is now carrying patties in the frozen food section, so I think I'll have to give them a try. Yum! I'm getting a craving just thinking about them.

I was about to have a fit as I really liked Taste of Havana. Where'd it move downtown?

They need to put an "'s" in the name of the next Caribbean restaurant so west Knox types won't be intimidated.

Thanks for letting me know! But I'm so sorry to hear that Marli's closed already. It didn't last long, just a few months. I never got to try them. Oh well. I need to head downtown and try Taste of Havana!

jabo, Taste of Havana has moved to the 100 block of Gay Street over by Nama. While I'm sorry they're not in Fountain City anymore, at least they're still in this part of Knoxville (and closer to Johnson City than Turkey Creek!).

Ah. That area is really coming up, eh?

And amen to the location! By the time I get to Knoxville the last thing I want to do is drive all through old west Knox to get to Turkey Creek.
