Hi,

I've applied for a Spanish teaching position with Knox schools and would like any info about the schools below (good/bad) and the area in general:

Farragut, Halls, Bearden, Gibbs, Hardin Valley, and about the area HS in general. Am hoping the job comes through (want to relocate from eastern VA) and would appreciate any info on a good, safe, affordable area to live in. Kids/family not an issue, but don't need to be in the UT college student area as I'm beyond that age group. I know West Knox is considered good and have friends there. Ideally would like to purchase a small house/TH with at least 1300 sf in a decent area for about mid 150's max if that is realistic there and not something regrettable... would like to find a place with more yard than what I have here , and a garage if possible. Any specific info would be helpful because if this works out it will be done fairly quickly over the summer by the beginning of August...

Thanks for all responses and information!

Lot of houses that fit your criteria in that price range, and bigger, too.

Hardin Valley is the newest HS in Knox Co...just opened last year. I like the principal there - she runs an academy-style curriculum. Ironically, her husband is the principal at Farragut. Both good schools in booming neighborhoods.

Halls and Gibbs are in communities that lean more rural & conservative. Bearden is in the middle of Knoxville's most-traveled commercial areas.

Good luck with the job app and relocation.

Bearden HS is on Gallaher View Road near Gleason and you can find a nice condo near there for your price or less. There are plenty of new ones plus older developments in your price range. Look in area code 37923. Some nice smaller houses around there, too. Close to West Town Mall, lots of restaurants and supermarkets.

Welcome Profesora, all the areas you mentioned are great, and like hiknapster said, you have plenty of choices in that price range. It will all depend on what type of neighborhood you like best, and the further out you look, you will get the better price per sq ft. Good luck and hope you get your wish to teach here.

Hardin Valley and Farragut are the way to go if you want good schools. Your home will also be more likely to appreciate faster in value as well. They are rapidly growing areas with a lot of young professionals.

We are blessed to have good schools in Knox County. Farragut and Hardin Valley are both great schools with high test scores and seems to be the place most parents want their children. I think you would do well with any school you get. Good Luck. Salaries are lower in Knox County not sure what you had in VA.
