I can't tell you how happy I am to find this thread! I plan on moving to the Knoxville area in the next 60 days and I have a lot of questions. I'm so glad to see so many other members from the Northeast. I've lived in the suburbs around Albany, NY almost my whole life, but I've spent a considerable amount of time working across Upstate NY, Lowell, MA and Nashua, NH...with a few visits to Keene, NH.

I need some advice regarding where to live. I'm a guy in my mid 20's, single and I'm in corporate sales. I like to work in a city-like environment but live in suburbs or smaller towns. I don't mind a commute if it means some peace and quiet. I really don't like shopping and running personal errands in very crowded, urban areas.

From what I can read, Maryville and Powell are very nice. Does that seem like a fit?

Just for a point of reference for you fellow Northeastern folks, I like Latham, NY, Guilderland, NY, Niskayuna, NY, Clifton Park, NY, Tewksbury, MA, Nashua, NH and Keene, NH.

Thanks so much.

Good news: there are no crowded urban areas here. We have crowded shopping areas, but they're not urban.

I'm from Maryville and in my 20s. I wouldn't live there as a single guy. If you enjoy frequenting or only occasionally going out to establishments, I'd look in Knoxville. Powell is in Knox Co and is essentially in Knoxville, but a bit far from downtown, where you'll likely be spending some night time. I suggest looking for apartments or living arrangements just south, west, or north of downtown. Or if you can afford it, live downtown. Knoxville's downtown is rather small and not intimidating at all.
