Im heading out to LV in August for a month. Im driving from NY. I have been looking at extended stays like Homestead and Extended Stay Americas. I've found a few pretty good deals for 1 month not on the strip for around $1400-$1600 for the month. I just don't want to be stuck right in some ghetto, and finding out excactly where the ****ty spots are hard because it seems as if people pretty much say everywhere is bad, but I've narrowed it down to these 4 locations:

Extended Stay America, 4240 Boulder Highway 89121
1550 E. Flamingo Road 89119
4270 S. Vally View Blvd 89103
3045 S. Maryland Parkway 89109

Please, if anyone has any experience with these hotels or locations, and would be willing to share, I will forever be in your debt. I am bringing my girlfriend with me and I DO NOT wan't to put her in harms way, but I also have a budget so I cannot afford $2000 a month for just a regular hotel. A vacant house for a month would be cool too but I have no idea on how to make that happen either. Any help guys would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, but none of those places are really safe for you guys. The weekly/montly rental places are all bad, full of transients who can't lease an apartment and druggies. I had to live in these places twice in the past and was constantly afraid (i'm female and lived w/my boyfriend). If you can find something away from the central areas it might be better, but Boulder Hwy is not a good choice. I would look into trying to find a short term rental or corporate type rental geared for business people. Unfortunately most of those places are in bad areas. If you can't find anything out farther, look into security. There might be some high rise extended stay places that might be safer. Sorry i don't have more specific info for you. Do some more searching and maybe you can find something, good luck.

Check out Craigslist.org for a sublet or temporary for the month of august. You may be able to find something quite a bit better for less money. Also the Las Vegas PD has a crime stat map that's wonderful (thanks again to whomever posted it for me): http://lvmpd.com/crimeviewcommunity/wizard.asp

I've seen some Budget suites for less. Hotel Suites advertise $299 per week and its on Paradise a block off the Strip near the Southeast corner of the Wynn. Haven't stayed at these places though so can't tell you how good or bad they are. I usually use Marriott Residence Inn for extended stay.

There's also plenty of apartments available. Maybe check in at Extended Stay first month giving you chance to look around.

Are you working? Where do you need to be ? No sense in getting a place at a good price only to have it so far away it would be a pain getting to work and back each day.

I say, that you should look on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Sunset, there are many extended stays there and it is safer than most of the other areas.

didn't you say you're coming from New York? It can't be any worse in LV - if you're from NY, you should know how to take care of yourself :>)

(I'm saying that because I lived in NY at one time)

Thanks for all the comments, they really help me out alot. Lvkewlkid, I believe you pointed me to the Manor suites, and I did such that. We booked 2 weeks with them, if it doesn't work out there, it's only 2 weeks... They are on Las Vegas Blvd, address: 7230 LV Blvd 2 miles south of Mandalay Bay. It's $1116 for a month, but I didn't wan't to book a month because the price doesnt change. I am from NY, but upstate, Albany to be excact, and although we have crime, we get along just fine. We have had 10 shootings in the past 3 months, but I have never encountered anything like that. Im going to LV because my girlfriend and I loved it there and we need to break away from our boring hometown, ditching the harsh winter months. If it doesn't work out in LV, we always can come back home. We are young, she is 21 I am 24. I have plenty of work experience in sales and customer service and shes been waitressing for a while now, we are pretty confident we can land jobs fairly quickly and we have plenty of money to just hang and check out the scene for a while. We wanted to move to L.A but cannot afford $6000 a month for housing! Were packing lightly and taking one car believe it or not. I sold my 2nd car and she is selling her car so we can just buy another car out there immediatly if we plan to stay. Cars are better there anyway, no damn rust! You guys seem really cool, and all of this information has helped us out alot. Please keep in touch if anyone is looking for a couple of new friends. We both ride motorcycles and atvs, mountianbike, hiking, jetski, whatever flows our way. And I know we are in need of friends there too so keep in touch. THanks again guys, and any other info is appreciated!

I think you will like the area...it is across the street from the Outlet Mall and another mall will be opening diagonally across the street, plus its surrounded by a timeshare resort (with 2 restaurants), so it should be very quiet. Its also close enough to the Strip to have fun...

My grandma stayed there for about a week when she was visiting, she thought it was nice...there weren't as many transients as some of the other hotels...
