89123 is known as Silverado. It is a middle class neighborhood with a high percentage of strip workers. Has a nice neighborhood feel in many places. Built in the 70, 80s, 90s and currently as you move west. The main drag is Silverado which runs from Eastern west to the 15 and over. Has most everything someplace along Silverado and more on Eastern. Pretty good schools if that is an issue.

I think it a very nice place particularly if strip or airport employment is involved.

WOW!!! Thanks for the info. We don't have any children so right now that isn't a deciding factor. I just wanted to make sure that the area was a safe one as I may be alone some nights. I have seen many posts that make me nervous about areas we don't know about so any information that we can find is GREAT!!!

It would be great if you can arrange yourself a short commute. And if you can find something with a garage or parking out of the sun would be a good idea too. And always think about your summer cooling bill. That wall of windows may look great but what will it cost to keep it cool? The electric bill is one of the scariest things about life in Vegas.

You hear a lot about the crime here and it scares people. It's all very subjective and goes back to where you came from. If you are from the suburban Mid-West, Vegas is scary. If you are from anyplace rural, you are shaking in your boots. Vegas is urban. It attracts every kind of person you can imagine. We are a diverse bunch. Salaries/wages are low here and it's full of casinos. Yes, we do attract low-lifes and undesirables too. The economy is in the toilet and too many folks are looking for a quick buck to make ends meet. Crime is a fact of life here just like it is in all the urban areas of the country.

I don't think you should be scared. I do think you should be careful and observant. Think twice about going where you don't belong at 4am. Casinos are usually safe 24x7. Most places with lots of tourists are quite safe as well. I go almost anywhere in the daytime but I don't walk alone at night. It's just common sense to me. It doesn't bother me at all to be home alone but you can bet the doors/windows are locked and I have a dog. He may have a sissy name, Spot, but he has proved he will tear into anyone who comes near me. And he will make one hell of a racket while he's doing it. I know my neighbors and they know me. We know who belongs in the neighborhood and who doesn't. I'll never be perfectly safe and I accept that. I have done what I reasonably can to protect myself.

Don't worry about crime. Be careful. Worry about the electric bill......

Come on YS...change the dogs mame to Brute or Killer or something.

Can you imagine how harmful it will be to the self respect of some tough if he gets mauled by "Spot".

that is as bad as the fabled 90 lb. Rotweiler named "Jesus"...

LOL!!! Believe me the electric bill can't be much worse than what we have dealt with in the winters here in NJ. We have electric heat in a 1 BR apt. My electric bill has never been lower than $250 in Nov - March...and is $150 in the summer so I think I am prepared for that!

I'm not worried about feeling unsafe, just wanted to make sure we weren't in a less than desirable neighborhood. Being from the East coast and so close to NYC, I am very aware of what is going on around me.

We also have a killer cat, her name is Mushy. Don't let her name fool you....she will tear your eyes out!!!

There are 2 men here in Vegas who have experienced the wrath of Spot.

The first was the gas line inspector. His work order said ring doorbell. Dogs in yard. Then there was the sign I had posted on the gate. Dogs in yard, ring bell for assistance. Do not enter. So what would any self respecting Clark County Inspector do? He walked right on in and Spot attacked him. He barely escaped and Spot got a chunk of his bum. I had to pay a fine and prove Spot had his shots, but the County also admitted they were at fault because the inspector failed to follow his access instructions. I saw a picture of the damaged 'cheek' and it wasn't pretty. I bet he doesn't admit the dog who got him was named Spot.

The second guy was working on my pool. They had the combination to my gate lock because they were in and out. One day a guy was working on my pump and just forgot to check in and tell me he was there. Spot got him on the arm and treed him in a big palm. I managed to get him down out of the tree and administer first aid. He was lucky. He was young and fast. He was mostly just scared and badly bruised.

Spot was a pet shop rescue and we will never know why he hates men. Once he gets to know you, he's very friendly and affectionate. But until then, beware. My other dog, Lola, was also a rescue and she loves everyone. She would help the burglar pack up my stuff.

I guess I could change Spot's name to Terminator but I'm afraid of causing him to have an identity crisis.

We had a rescue dawg....Beagle Baily.....we decided that she was a lesbian because she hated all msles....dawgs, cats, humans, kids. If it was male she hated it [and I know it wasnt because I teased her by crankin her tail] She is the ONLY dawg to have EVER bitten me in my entire life...[seven times]

Girl burglers could walk out with the place.....men were dead meat....
