Yep, you need to know, blow and pay tribute to get a job in the resorts in this town. It's a good ol boy system, but it works and we like it that way.

I know at least 7-8 people who came as refugees from bosnia and got job at hotels without knowing anyone in vegas.

Is it because at that time economy was better?

And are they janitors or housekeeping? Non to low skill jobs can be easier to get, but how many years ago did your friends get their jobs?

If your friend is unemployed where they are, then coming to Las Vegas to look for a job is no more risky than staying there looking for a job. Finding a job is almost always a matter of being in the right place at the right time, and being able to sell yourself to an employer. But the unemployment rate here is nearly 15%. That's the highest in the country, and it cuts your chances of being in the right place when there is a position open down to nearly impossible odds. If your friend has a job they should keep it for now until things improve.
