hi all
My sister recently had third job interview and company (hotel/strip - position waitress) offered her a job right away after that.She signed that too! They also told her when her start date will be!

After that they said she need to get a health card and alcohol aw. card on same day (!?) and bring to them so they can to continue process (whatever that means) and will give her additional papers to sign plus will tell her where to go for drug test..

After she obtained all cards she called them and guy from HR told her they will call her tommorow....

Tommorow nobody called her!

She called them next day to see what is going on and same guy from HR told her she will PROBABLY receive call from them in next 2 days (again) because it TAKES TIME !

Now, what takes time???

Are they doing background cheks?

We tought that they will do background checks only when she bring all requested cards to them (and they told her so)!

Can they even do background checks without asking her for her permission and withou additional documents (SSN) ??

She also needs to do drug test, but only if they say so....

And finaly, now after 6 days she is still waiting for them to call her!

Is this normal? Are they just busy with other stuff or they are checking something else?

The company sounds like a bunch of flakes. If she needs the job bad enough, keep bugging them while looking for another position. If they don't pull through, the alcohol and health card will be usable for other jobs as well and she can move on.

they do the BG and drug testing BEFORE they make the firm offer tof a job....that way if she flunks either they have no liability

I changed the job 3 times in past 10 years and always was offered job (signed) first then after that they asked me to sign other papers (for BG check i think) including request for drug test... oh well maybe its different now....

btw how long it takes for drug test results?

That's the way it has always been at least for the last 20 or so years in which drug testing has become commonplace - its called a pre-employment drug screen. Under most circumstances it is illegal to make continued employment contingent on passing a drug test - but if you are not technically employed yet they can put you through all kinds of hoops.

Here's some info - Intro to Employment Drug Testing for Employers and Human Resources Professionals - funny that they tout the benefits of drug testing as a way to "eliminate people with problem, and not good applicants." Apparently it doesn't eliminate people who are not good copywriters.

Are you SURE it was a legit company? Seems like if it was, you'd have the location of the place and she could just drop by.

From the sounds of it, I mean, you used the word 'company', which usually means someone somewhere else besides the hotel/restaurant/strip place met with her.

Sounds like some random guy she interviewed with. Especially since it has the word 'strip' in it. I'm thinking some random guy set up something to see a free strip show from ameuteurs, and you can't contact him afterwards as there was nothing legit about it.

SH** happens. Possibly an internal problem arose in the meantime. Either wait, or move on. I'd move on.

Over here at the white building. They extend a job offer pending background & drug test. If the first choice candiate washes out. HR will the extend the job offer to the dept second choice.

Marioni888 if she was hired at a MGM/Mirage property. she will be lucky to be on the working schedule by 2011. Thier HR dept is that slow.

yes i think she was hired at mgm or venetian, she applied to both places....

now,when she signed a job offer she was also told start date,30 september.

today is 23. And still no word from them.Aven if they call her today or tommorow for drug test will it be possible to get results by sep 30??

She is afraid of appearing too desperate if she calls them again.
But the biggest question is - what she is waiting for now, if they told her she will need to come to their office first to sign papers then why she is waiting so long... maybe BG checks?

Mojave....we've had a couple of problems that arose from Start Pending....[had to have one removed by Metro] so we don't do ANYthing until we see the paperwork....makes a little uncomfortable sometimes trying to cover empty shifts lol
