You always see folks rave about the virtues of staying in Summerlin Aliante and GV etc. But what if you had to live in the North?

Based on my income and need(work wise) to be near the strip, the North seems to be my only option. Folks keep telling me to stay away but i think thats an unfair assumption to make of an entire area...Surely parts(Not including or boardering Aliante) of NLV are good??

Me and the wife(stay at home mum) looking for the usuals(safety and easy commute to ammenties)...Not to much of a stretch is it? Have up to 800 to spend....Help plz

Check out the Spring Valley area. Close enough to the Strip. Older well-established area. Close to lots of shopping. 10 minutes to the Strip from your farthest point.
Another area is the east side. Lots of nice places over there. Older, but you get bigger homes and yards, your money goes farther.
Forget the older NLV area that is closer to the strip. Your stay at home wife would probably not like it. Safety would be an issue.

If you really want to live in North Las Vegas, go anywhere north of Craig and west of I-15. But the commute will be longer than living in Spring Valley.

PinkString:

I just want to know if you could give me a heads up on the best parts of Vegas in general to look in. My fiancee and I are relocating there in March of this year, like NO time when we really think about it. I JUST had my first honest conversation with a leasing manager from there who was honest enough to tell me that his location on the east side was in the middle of the hood, and coming from Detroit that is NOT something I'm looking to go across the country and remain in.
So I've been told Summerlin, any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
And anyone else with relevant information, I would greatly appreciate it

Centennial Hills, Aliante, parts of Henderson. Depends where you'll be commuting to and how much of a commute you're willing to tolerate.

There are many areas of LV that are nice. Think the perimeter of the valley: From the southern end by South Point casino over to Rhodes Ranch, Spanish Trails, The Lakes, Summerlin, Peccole Ranch, Centennial Hills, Aliante, newer upper NE LV in the 89086 zip, then back to the far east side by Sunrise mountain, over to Henderson, Green Valley, Seven Hills, Southern Highlands, etc. Even though Spring valley is no longer on the perimeter, it's still a good enough area.

Not all of the east side is crappy. There are plenty of area's that are good. older well-established, people living in the same house for decades, family oriented. I have several friends that live on the east side and they like it. Although the one's that live right by Sunrise mountain did tell me they have to drive through a bad area to go to work and back.

My idea of heaven won't be someone else's idea of it. If I could, I would live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors for at least a mile each way. I never get enough quiet time.

Thanks pink string. Heard some bad things, but can you comment on anything between E bonanza and E lake mead? Not the best I know but as long as things "look" ok neighbourhood wise then I'll try and manage things from there. Not a great strategy I know but I gotta make due with what I got. Fingers crossed there something ok out there

Keep in mind, most residents of NLV are not victims of crimes.

Kind of like where I live...but I guess you'd want warmer, less bugs...and less taxes.

That's always good to hear! Where do the large majority reside though? I'll in the N east section of LV. I just hope there's a nice(relatively) place to stay for sometime till the economy recovers and I can buy a home

I used to live in NE part of town for a bit, across from Nellis AFB.

I bet tons of people would tell you to not live over there.

As long as you yourself are not into crime/drugs and don't "flash" your money you will be cool. I live in a nice gated community now. Far from that place. You know what the people over there were friendlier. Everyone waved and talked to their neighbors way more than they do here.

Only experience I really have in the area you are speaking of is Pecos and Lake Mead. Largely Hispanic.

You could make it there fine.

No one on here ever talks about the trailer parks in town. Which you can get at a bargain. Stay away from Purple Sage and Bluebird though.

800 is all you got? Or 800 for just the rent and you have more for utlities?

If 800 was all you had I'd move further north to Cheyenne and hop on the 15.

But than again I'm not soft like a lot of these posters. I'd live just about anywhere if I had to.
