Not much of an issue here though they do occur. Should be checked for in older construction.

The termites here don't fly and don't spread like they do in CA. They are pretty much subterrean and spread by contact between soil and wood.

Yeah, you need some moisture for the sulphur dioxide to mix with to form sulphuric acid. And Vegas doesn't really do moisture.

I still think it's something to avoid like the plague though. Can it be detected/

The standard detection method is to look for exposed copper. If blackened you got the problem.

There is an analytical test for sulphur in the air...but it is expensive.

So i think the only workable test is likely to check your copper.
